Why Minimalism?
Minimalism is a practical way to experience what it is like to have less. We want to go beyond our comfort zone and try to understand the daily struggles homeless people face everyday. We can't demonstrate everything that the homeless population goes through like worrying where we are going to sleep tonight, what the next meal is going to be, or where to go next. We still eat three meals a day, brush our teeth, and do our hair, but through this minimalism project we can imagine our difficulties multiplied many times over to comprehend the challenges they have.
We could have just volunteered a couple times at the shelter and call it a day, but we wanted to do more. We want to walk in their shoes, no matter how worn down they may be. They are still people after all, and like all people they need to be understood. We hope through this project we can grasp the blessings that life gives, and try to help others achieve those same blessings.
Project Managers
Kristen Beckwith
I have been involved in Valencia DECA for the past three years and am currently in my junior year of high school. Even though I am not an officer this year, I am incredibly devoted to the organization of DECA and the ways that it impacts students all across the globe. I participated in the Food Marketing Series at all of the competitions and competed in the Community Marketing Project (CMP) with my brother Joel in 2016 and 2017, winning first place at the State Career Development Conference in CMP with him. I am excited to be a project manager for the Community Service Project this year, hoping to both aid an organization that is in need and grow myself in business knowledge and experience.

I am a junior at Valencia High School and I have been a part of DECA for three years. I was the VP of Marketing last year in 2016 and am honored to be elected an officer again.I have competed in the Marketing Cluster with Food marketing and Marketing Communications. I started the first Community Service Project (CSP) for Valencia DECA last year, which won first at the State Career Development Conference (SCDC). I was able to represent California at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim with the project. Our goal this year is to extend our cause to the other clubs on campus and promote unity within the school. I am very excited for this upcoming DECA season and for the opportunities that lay ahead.

DECA & Bridge To Home
Establishing A Tradition of Service
Here at Valencia DECA, we want to establish a relationship with Bridge To Home and continue to offer our service to an organization committed to serving the needs of others. We definitely did not want this to be a one time event and miss out on this great opportunity. We wish to continue our partnership with them and create a tradition of service for many years to come.
Before we can understand what our donations actually mean, we need to take some time to experience aspects of the lives that homeless people live. We have dedicated November to the practice of minimalism so that we can have a taste of the lifestyle that we otherwise may not have remembered.
NOVEMBER IS MINIMALISM MONTH
